Business consulting is a way to tackle a specific issue that stands in the way of your goals. You hire me to sort out the problem.
But there’s always more than one way to tackle an issue. So, we’ll agree an action plan up front before I get to work. That way, we can ensure that you’re happy with the approach I take.
Unlike coaching, where I help you develop the business skills you need for the long-term development of your business, business consulting requires much less input on your part. When you hire me as a consultant rather than a coach, you point me in the direction of the problem, and ask me to solve it.
Where there’s a requirement for a particular technical skill, I may bring in one of my team to help. However, I will retain responsibility for the project and will always be your main point of contact.
During the project I’ll check in with you from time to time as needed. For the most part though, you simply carry on running your business in the same way you do now.
Consulting projects can cover almost any aspect of business. For example, you might ask me to produce a marketing plan, or to suggest ways to improve staff productivity, or to review your cyber-security.
There are three stages to a consulting project:
Initial Assessment
I meet with you to discover what you’re trying to achieve and where you’d like help. I then send you an initial assessment which includes specific goals, actions to be taken, and a time schedule. You can then decide whether to request a Consulting Report.
The Consulting Report
We start by discussing your goals and the issues you face. What you’d like to get from your business and what’s standing in the way. We look at the options for bringing about change and set a 90-day action plan.
Implementation
You can ask me to put the plan into action or decide to move forward in some other way. As to the duration of a consulting project, timings will vary depending on specific circumstances. However, 90 days is a good rule of thumb.
